The music here spans a wealth of styles - Jamaican rhythm blues, jazz, gospel, proto-ska, Rastafarian - all of which were drawn upon to create the future sounds of Jamaican reggae that Sir Coxsone and the artists featured would soon create at Studio One, which first opened its doors in 1963.It encompasses a record label, pressing plant and online magazine, and collaborates with artists and musicians to create stunning audio-visual shows.Saying no will not stop you from seeing our ads, but it may make them less relevant or more repetitive.
This one is the sequel of the Eccenric Soul:The Deep City compilation. Also they are a good oppurtunity to listen to something different and new. An amazing musical written by Galt MacDermot with many great songsSome of my favorite songs are here The soundtrack for the 1979 film is the definite version for me as it is more funky than before and the singersactors are really good. This boxset was released by Atlantic Records which holds the rights for the companys catalog from the period 1959-1968. Soul Jazz Records Future Bass Rare Full Of SonglesThe first of the three boxsets and the best of the three, covers the period when the company released some of its best albums and singles.9 discs full of songles by Sam and Dave,Johnnie Taylor,Otis Redding and some other famous or obscure artists of the company. Various Artists. Soul Jazz Records Future Bass Rare Movie Of AlProbably my favorite movie of al time An amazing music films based on the musical by John Cameron Mitchell with original glam rock songs written by him and and Stephen Trask Fantastic songs like Tear Me Down, the epic The Origin of Love or the punk rock The Angry Inch are not written easily those days. Also Bob Mould plays in the album. A really classic soundtrack that Jimmy Cliff dominates with some of his best songsAlso some other reggae groups and artists contribute one or two songs (The Melodians,Desmond Dekker and others). The title track is a masterpiece and so are classics like Pressure Drop or Many Rivers to Cross An important album because it made reggae more popular in the rest of the wordld. James Brown. Strut is label that has some really good compilations about Funk,African music, soul and disco. This one is really fantastic.Contains some first class afrobeat and funky highlife from artists like William Onyeabor,Fela kuti of course, the Funkees,Sir Victor Uwaifo,Orlando Julius,Tony Allen and others. The album has 23 mostly lengthy songs of amazing quality. Great 3-cds set that contains 57 tracks.Northern Soul compilations are dangerous sometimes cause some of them contain mediocre material. Here there are many great songs and of course some weaker moments but overall the quality level is very good and entertaining.Artists like The Elgins and Martha Reeves the Vandellas stand alongside with lesser known acts in this collection.Of course Northern soul is very loose term so there are songs in many styles here.Motown-like songs,Philly soul and even Proto-Disco.Barbara Pennigtons 24 hours a day and L.J Johnsons Your Magic Put A Spell On Me are the highlights for me. This one contains some great afrobeat and funk from the Western African country.14 gems without one weak moment. Soundway records have made some really impressive compilations with funky music from Ghana,Panama,Nigeria,Colombia and other countries. Phil Spector. Great boxset that contains various artists that worked with the producer. It workds great as it cintains the best songs from The Crystals,The Ronettes,Ike and Tina Turner and others.Of course some songs are weaker,i meanit is four discs long, but there are many great songs here. Soul Jazz Records Future Bass Rare Series Are FantasticSoul Jazz records Studio One series are fantastic.Too many great songs here.It is considered the weakest of the three studio one roots compilations but i like this a lot.Great songs by some lesser known reggae artists. Jobriath. Compilation that have songs from both albums by this glam rocker. The debut was much better and most of the songs here are from there.Imaman is simply amazing and there are other gems here too. ![]() Amazing funk compilationLots of James Brown imitations here but man those tunes are dopeLots of highlights there is a song named Pure Funk which is amazing and Sam Bakers soul anthem Do It Right is heartbreaking with those fantastic horns The 14 first songs are perfect and then come 3 weaker songs. The last 5 are in the same level as the first 14 songs and Vanessa Kendricks 90 of me is you is a killer one Now-Again Records proves one more that their compilations are top quality. Disc 2 has some fune tunes too.Eula Cooper was the undeniable star of the labels so her Let our love grow higher was recorded in the famous Muscle Shoals.Ten of her songs made it in the compilation. Also the second disc has more harmony soul styled songs, that sound like waht Philadelhia International Records was doing at the same time. Even some proto-disco I must say that the first disc is a lot better than the second. Another great compilation in the series.Everything about these series is great. The covers excellent. The package too.The selections are also most of the times very good, and also it gives us the oppurtunity to listen to very rare stuuf that it will be very difficult to listen elsewhere. This one includes 50 () tracks from two labels from Atlanta that shared the same owner and director, saxophonist Jesse J. Jones.Tragar was the first of the two and Note was the succesor. The first disc has more southern soul songs and some Motown-influnced tracks there an dthere, like for example Eula Coopers Love makes me do foolosih things, with a lush orchestration that tries to copy the Motor City successful sound. There are many great southern soul moments in the first disc.Especially Strange Feeling by Nathan Wilkis and Eula Coopers Try are amazingEula has a really impressive voice. It includes songs from some small labels in Miami and some unreleased material from the Deep City label.I must say that this one has more famous names than the other compilations of the series like Betty Wright, the great Clerence Reid and James Knight. Some great funk here Both Reids songs are very good Memphis soul.Perk Badger is doing a very good James Brown impersonation, and Frank willimas and his band an even better one.i must say now that there is a boring instrumental and some sappy ballads that i dont like very much. But i like at least 14 of the 20 songs here so i guess it is a good ratio.14. Helene Smiths The Pot Cant Talk About The Kettle is very interesting depp soul moment.Snoopy Deans Your love wont let me leav you is another highlight And the Rollers are very onteresting local psychedelic soul group that contributes 3 songs here. But the major highlight here is Betty Wrights Mr. Lucky an AMAZING funk song, one of the best of her career. She recorded it for a small label in Florida,Solid Soul and it is available only here.
